A Study on the Muppetology of Ben Edlund

whatisbenedlund:

It has long been postulated that Ben Edlund is a muppet.  However, until now, no work has been done to figure out Ben Edlund’s muppet family tree. Today we here at whatisbenedlund.tumblr.com wish to examine what evidence we have on hand to find out who his closest relatives are and what sort muppet ancestry he has.

Before we begin, we thought it would be wise to address the matter of Smile Time beforehand.  Yes, those of us behind whatisbenedlund.tumblr.com are aware of Smile Time.  We know it was by Ben Edlund. We have come to the conclusion that Smile Time was a reaction to the difficulties inherent in being a muppet in television writing, as most muppets are pigeonholed into vaudevillian-style variety show or children’s television.  By the time he was working on Angel, he had clearly broken out of that mold.  However, the difficulties he faced still clearly haunted him.  We believe that an entity’s felted status does not have any bearing on their writing or directing talent.

Now, as Slate tells us, there are two types of muppets:  chaos muppets and order muppets.  Ben Edlund is a chaos muppet.  There is simply no question of this.  I mean, ghost bees, vampire puppets, his fuzzy hair and rather insignificant eyebrows?  He’s clearly on the side of chaos.  But!  It is possible for chaos muppets to be related to order muppets, as seen by Bert and his identical twin brother Bart.  So, while it is likely that Ben Edlund’s closest muppet relative is a chaos muppet, there is also a small possibility that it is an order muppet created to be a comedic foil for him (or vice versa).

Without further ado, let us go through some of the possibilities:

Excellent theory and research, but I think you may have, in your glee, not examined the Crazy Harry connection closely enough.  Most writers admit that they’re more prone to putting in Mary Sues/Author inserts in their earliest and latest works.  May I present to you The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs At Midnight?
