My worlds collide. For a newspaper article, extremely thoughtful commentary about the development and Orientalist problems in Western criticism on the genre (which appears to be equally ghetto-ized in Arabic literature as it is in English/Westerm, plus a couple of book recommendations for me and fellow Arabic readers/translations to wait for if you can’t make sense of the squiggly. 

/for English-readers who’ve never tried Arabic Sci-fi, I highly recommend “Saeed the Pessoptimist” by Emile Habibi as an introduction — the translation is very good and the subject material remains very relevant, funny at times, and heart-breaking at others.
